Botanical Garden in Gardone Riviera
In Gardone Riviera, at 10 minutes walk from our B&B, on a slope of Mount Lavino, there is the Botanical Garden: 15.000 sqm. of land since 1912. It became property of the Andrè Heller Foundation as from 1989.
This garden is known also as Hruska Garden. Arthur Hruska, was a doctor of Czech and slowakian origin that designed this amazing corner of paradise, that was successively trasformed by the artist Andrè Heller in one of Italy's most beautiful gardens, in which you can admire artificial streams and small lakes covered by waterlilies, flowers and plants coming from all the world and from all the different climate areas for a total amount of about 3000 different species of plants.
"Centre of ecological awareness": as it is written in this not common botanical garden, that is also a place of art and meditation. Multifaceted artist, Heller is one of the most successful and influential multimedial artists in the world that lives either in Vienna or on Lake Garda fascinated by the lake's landscape and by its thousands of different atmospheres, shades of colours, emotions and sensations that this place offers. He is also the author of some of the sculptures that you can find here.
The artist's capacity was his ability to combine and connect the various areas; not only physically thanks to pedestrian paths but also conceptually: every space communicates with the space next to it, never with a clear separation between the zones.
Amongst the plants, appear monsters and oriental gods and arts of very famous artists, such as Keith Haringe Roy Liechtenstein. Extraordinary the revival in bonsai dimensions of a real alpin valley of the Dolomites.
